1885 SCHAUKELSTUHL NATURAL ROCKING CHAIR

Description

This stunning rocking chair was designed in 1885 by Gebrüder Thonet OHG. Its sinuous silhouette was crafted entirely of beech wood that was bent using the iconic Viennese steaming treatment. The dynamic shape creates a charming and romantic effect, enhanced by the Viennese straw that covers the elongated back and seat. The warm wood finish adds a warm and welcoming accent to the piece.

I did a full restoration from sanding the wood and made it alive again applying just natural oil.  The seat was removed completely and handmade stitched a new one following the pattern of the original one.

This Rocking chair is a good example of something unwanted and sometime no hopes can be completely renew and back to do to live again.

We shouldn’t forget that by recycling and reusing furniture we are helping the environment by producing less waste and reducing the use of energy.
